Dear All,

I am travelling in the second week of February to Santiago for 10 days. I would appreciate suggestions on obtaining low rates for economy car rentals in this city.

You will have a hard time obtaining low rates. There wasn't any car rentals at the airport when I flew into Santiago in September.
I couldnt find ONE car on the web.

Thanks Jazzcom, I have tried the web as well but to no avail....
I guess I will have to find a place once I'm there and negotiate down the rate the best I can.

There is at least one Rental car company albeit not a international one on the road out of the airport.

Do me a favor and send a post if you find a decnet rental rate in Santiago. I found resonable fare flying into Santiago and out of POP but could not get a quote for a car rental.

I will keep an eye out for the rental car company just outside of the airport. If I find decent rates I'll report it back upon my return.

If I cannot rent a car in Santiago, Is there a bus I can get the next day as it is an evening flight into Sosua ?

NEWtoDR: Are you coming into POP rather than STI?

If so, you can spend the night at Sofy's B&B (809 586 6411, I think), have a great breakfast and Noelle will show you how to get to the bus station to get to Santiago....Either Metro or Caribe Tour will do the job. Metro has nice buses and Caribe Tours stops at two places in Santiago, depending on where you want to go...

Rent a cars in Santiago

There are two listed, but I know there are more:
For instance, Metro has a rental agency at the depot in Santiago
Nelly Rent a Car 809 583 6695

I think Nelly is close to the airport on the corner of the Airport Rd and the Santiago/SD Rd. Honda may have been on the Airport RD also come to think of it. HB?

Nelly will have an office at the Airport in a week or two at most. You can email them at this addie: elidovarona@hotmail.com
If you are coming sooner, they will pick you up at the airport. You can arrange this via the email.
