Please help me make this a really great weekend for my wife, it marks 2 occasions for us.

1st, Our Wedding Anniversary.
2nd, Our first full year, living and working here.

Okay, I'm going for Santiago, near La Vega.
I am going Thursday ? Sunday, Feb 27 to March 2nd.
And go and catch the end of Carnival.

I am open to ALL suggestions. Places where, we might meet Ex-Pats, good food, maybe even cross paths with some poster's.

To all who take the time to write, your time is really appreciated!

Thanks
Tim & Mechi

How about Camp David in Santiago? Amazing views, small, good food etc. If you do a search, I'm sure you will find all their details.

If just for you and your wife...

You might consider one of the nice cabanas on that side of Santiago.

Helios, for example.

It's not one of those Drive in, pull the door down, by the hour, Bugaloo's is it?

If not tell me more.

Thanks Rob, I will do the homework on Camp David.

Thanks

Tim,

Yes, it is, but a very nice one suitable for a honeymoon type atmosphere.

It has a giant bathtub with European style shower/hose attachment, air-conditioning that always works, cable tv with adult channel of course, and food and drink that can be ordered through the privacy window at any time. Very comfortable.

Seems like the price (2 years ago) was about 1000 pesos for the whole night. I think that they had another, more premium, class of room/suite, but I don't know how it could have been better.

It's near the Duarte highway about 10 minutes south of Santiago. If you want to go out for formal dinner/entertainment, the monument area of Santiago is only a few minutes away.

When I was there, it was a special occasion - not to hide. She liked it.

Of course, your budget might be much bigger than mine, too.

Why don't you go to Jarabacoa?

It's a 30 minute drive to La Vega and a 45 minute drive to Santiago (more or less) and there are tons of things to do, specially if you like the outdoors.

Try Rancho Baiguate and Hotel Pinar Dorado for lodging.
