Can anyone tell me anything about this resort??

Clean, sterile, private behind a wall so the locals cannot touch the beach, full of tourists, perfect for vacationers who want to be away from the city they are visiting.

Food is plentiful, if bland, mostly name brand drinks and including of course Brugal, Barcelo and Presidente. At least 3 pools, one near the dining pavilion and one down by the beach and one other if I recall - one 24 hour bar and several others and restaurants of varying kinds.

Located on the end of the Boca Chica beach on the Eastern end. You can see it at www.bocachicabeach.net along with the other AI's Don Juan and Dominican Bay, probably inferior to Hamaca in terms of premises but similar in terms of pointlessness.

I stayed there on a package in 1998 for a week but moved to a tourist hotel in Boca Chica after day 2 after I figured out that if I wanted to go on vacations with Canadians ( or Brits) I can do that here in the summer.

Still if you think AI's are the right decision as many do, it is the best choice in Boca Chica.

You may find your package deal flight if you are on a charter now flies into La Romana (LRM) so you have about 90 minutes by bus to and from the airport. When I went it was a SDQ flight which is at most 15 or 20 minutes from Boca Chica.

I visit the DR and Boca Chica 5 or 6 times a year and stay in a tourist hotel and eat in restaurants etc., and have, IMHO more fun with the locals and the town than in the AI's.

My husband and I stayed there a few months back and we really enjoyed it. The food was good, the staff for the most part was very nice, our room was very clean and we had fun.

Good deal as far as prices so hope you enjoy your vacation there or anywhere in DR that you end up going.

If you must stay in an AI in Boca Chica then the Hamaca is your place. I have been to the club there and the casino and it is nice. But why settle for an AI. I am sorry, I do not like AI's at all. I have been to the Dominican Republic a couple of times and there are many places to stay that are much better than an AI. Why go to another country to be surrounded by Canadians, Italians, Americans, and Germans(the main tourists)? Experience life and mingle with the locals. If you want to stay in Boca Chica check out the hotel page. I personally recommend the Costa Lunga and the Europa. The Europa was nice but a little noisy at night so Costa Lunga is my top choice. If you want to be sheltered and spared the sight of the locals, stay at the Hamaca. They have a nice big fence seperating their property, keeping the locals out, and creating a tourist retreat. Enjoy the nice, repetitive meals, dancing at the Las Ollas disco with North Americans and Europeans, etc. Sorry to say this but I could save a few hundred dollars and stay at an AI in Florida if I wanted that type of environment.

I realise that a lot of you guys don't like AI's and up to a point I agree with your comments, but for first time visitors, it is an ideal way to get an introduction to the country. I have stayed at the Hamaca four times and genuinely love the place, but I agree, it doesn't give you much idea about the DR. Saying that, we have got friendly with two of the guys who work there and now go to their houses for days and get taken around the nearby areas by them. So although I stay at the Hamaca I do also see some of the Dominican way of life as well. Maybe next time I will stay in one of the guest houses or hotels mentioned on the site and then I'd probably never go to an AI again!
