Quick trip=quick report!

Looked like rain in Juan Dolio this morning so we headed out with friends for a quick change of scenery.

Destination: Boca de Yuma

Very much a ghost town with only a few inhabitants but charming none the less. Lots of un-rehabilitated places that were destroyed by Hurricane Georges. We had a look around the town with the fantastic views of the Carribean and numerous small coves that we were told pirates used to use (and some said still do!).
Then it was off to the beach - an adventure in itself! You descend a steep set of stairs to the miniscule beach with dozens of yolle waiting for another day to head out to fish as the sea was fairly rought after the storm the night before. Hop into a yolle (all six of us!) and for 10 pesos a person you are transported to the other side of the river (we opted to walk the heights to the beach rather than taking the boat around the point because of the roughness of the water.). Then it's up another set of steep steps to the headlands where we stopped at a colmado to buy snacks and water.
We followed a cart path along the headland ( very muddy in places because of the heavy overnight rain) and about 10 minutes later came out at the main beach known as Playa Rosada because the sand glows pink in the setting sun.
It was a beautiful sunny day with lots of drifting clouds overhead.
We swam, sun bathed, walked the deserted beach and thoroughly enjoyed the brief "sun shower" that cooled things down a bit.
All too soon it was time to leave so we retraced our steps back to the river to catch a yolle to the other side.
Once up the stairs we headed to the nearest comedor for a feast of fresh deep fried fish, tostones, deep fried corn bread and cold Presidentes (all for the grand sum of 120 pesos per person.)
Back into the Blazer and home to Juan Dolio with just a slight sunburn! :)

All in all a day we'll definitely repeat. The scenery is fabulous, the town enchanting, the people friendly and the food was great!!
