Unfortunately it is not me. My daughter and her husband are going to POP next week staying at an AI. I don't know which one.
I am not a big fan of AI's so I told my daughter and her husband to try to get off the AI and try to get to see some of the real DR and its people. I was born in the DR many years ago and haven't been there in a while so I'm not sure where to tell them to go.
So, I am looking for a little help from you all, with some suggestions of some places they can go. I did tell them to try to get over to Sosua and check out Eddy's and Rocky's for some drinks and info,
etc. Anyway, if anybody can offer some suggestions of places to go, tours to go on, restaurants to eat at, etc. it would be greatly appreciated. Or if you are in POP, drop by and see them. I'm sure it would be good for a cold Presidente or three!

I wish they had time to get to Santiago to see some of the mountain scenery or to Samana to see some of the secluded beaches, but that may be too far while staying at an AI. They will be there next Tuesday thru Sunday. Wish it were me. I'll know later exactly where they are staying. Thanks, ya'll

Thanks for the reply, HB

They are staying at Playa Dorada at the Paradise Beach Resort and Casino or something to that effect. If you have some time off and you are in the area, they would love to meet one of the "locals". If you got to show them around, I'm sure they would buy you some gas and take you to lunch. I would be forever indebted to you. I think I still have your phone numbers, but I will e-mail you later with names and more details if you think you'll be able to make it up there.

I hope to be down there later this year if work permits. I'll be working in Monterey, Mexico for the next couple of weeks and after that who knows. Anyway, thanks again for your response.

Hey there Bob,
Either drop me a PM or e-mail with their details OR get them to look me up in the local 'phone book & give me a call. Got a busy schedule with quite a few others in at the moment but will do what I can to help them out.

Tell them to check out ALL the excursions available befor deciding on anything particular - The Jeep safaris are good value, interesting & informative as to the culture here. They should do the cable car too - but NOT on the "Organised" City tour (far too brief a visit up to the top!! Anyway, more if they contact me & make sure you get hold of me when you are here next!! - Grahame.

Thanks BushBaby

I?m still here in Monterrey but did find a way to communicate to the outside world. Anyway, I did get to see my daughter before I left for my trip and they apparently had a pretty good time. They especially enjoyed meeting you and spending some time with you. Thank you for your kindness.

Kristen did bring me back some Dominican coffee, some rum, and a great big 2 1/2 L. bottle of Scotch. I?m glad to see I trained my kids right.

Take care and hope to see you all soon.

Man, I like these Spanish keyboards. Now I can spell words like ?co?o?.

Just a minor thread hijacking here.

Your regular old English keyboard can also type the ? or ? characters. All you gotta do is to hold down the "Alt" key, while typing 164. When you release the Alt key, the ? appears as if by magic! The large ? is Alt+165.

All Inclusives

Hello to you all,

I would like to agree with all of you about All-Inclusives:cool:

I believe it depends on the person and what they are looking for in a vacation. What type of personality they have or how adventurous the are.:nervous:

I am staying at an AI beecause it is my first time to DR. I need a base to operate from where I know what kind of conditions to expect. (Peace of mind)(also a great deal$$):classic:

My a$$ will be leaving that resort as much as possible. I live in South Florida and If I wanted to just lie around the pool or beach, I can stay home:bored: I guess I am spoiled and most tourists are not afforded that luxury. They will be happy and satisfied with their AI. :classic: That is wonderful, I do hope they get a little adventurous and wander off the resort!

I am coming down the last week in July, 9 days/8 nights starting July 22. Anyone going to be there? I'd like to meet some of you, first drink is on me!

My activites will probably include Golf, snorkelling, partying, horseback riding, partying, sightseeing, gambling, partying, dining,
dancing and did I mention partying! (okay, being lazy and laying around the pool or beach too!)

When I get home from vacation, I usually need one to recover.:tired: I keep swearing that next time I'll relax more and do less running around. But, that never happens. Maybe this trip wil be different.

Can't wait for July, it will be here soon. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Chris

PS: Jan, did a guard with a gun really stop you from leaving the resort?
