Someone closed the original thread, so I'm forced to do this. The one detail that caught my eye about Eddy's plan was the mandatory death sentence for anyone deported from the USA. Now, the last time I was in Santiago, the best cab driver I had out of the bunch was this guy who had lived in NYC for 10-12 years and was now back "in country." Without me specifically asking or him specifically telling, after a few rides, I figured out that he had probably been a drug dealer in NYC; got caught; and was sent back to the DR--not for the drugs, but because he was illegally living in the US.
Is this the kind of a person to stay away from?
I planned on requesting him as a driver when I get back to town sometime this year.

I don't think this thread will get very far but when I made my opening statement I was refering to hardened criminals who had committed a serious felony (Murder, Armed Robbery etc.) had served part of their time and were deported. I haven't heard of any cop getting shot by someone deported for being an illegal.
