We have booked a wedding at the Melia for next year but we have some guests who are diabetic. Does anyone know if Diet drinks are readily available here.

Thanks in advance

Maybe, but you can buy it anyway.

You can certainly buy Coca Cola Light ( Which is Diet Coke) with aspartame in it all over the DR ( it used to be a low sugar version of Coke and tasted horrible) - you can always e-mail the resort if you need to and be very specific you are asking about sugar free soda.

Otherwise buy a case (or those 2 liter plastic bottles) when you arrive and keep it with you and just ask for ice and a glass. The cost I know would not be covered uner the AI plan but considering the consequences it is a small price to pay.

READ the bottle/can before buying to be sure it is 0 calorie, aspartame containing, USA style, soda.

You can always drink agua con gaz, or club soda with no sugar at all.

NB: For the diabetic who measures sugar consumption be advised that almost all orange juice has added sugar. Hard to believe that orange juice needs sugar added but it has.

You can buy OJ in the store in the dark orange container ( vs. the mostly white and orange container) that is SIN AZUCAR , without added sugar.

Just thinking it could screw up blood sugar levels if you did not expect added sugar in OJ.
