According to the Aug. 17, 2003 NEW YORK TIMES, the nations of Africa, Western Europe, & North America are considering placing the country of Liberia under some form of UN trusteeship; at the moment the details are vague. For how long? To be determined. Is this not a valid business model for La Republica? Why not? If a majority of the Dominican people were give a choice in a free election of UN [or US] trusteeship, instad of the present 'democracy' - a near total failure - what would be the percentage of 'yes' votes? Food for thought? If viable in Africa, why not in the Caribbean? Should Haiti be next? Why not? What does Pres. Mejia think?

Figure it out - what does Liberia (or its direct neighbors) have (besides war and poverty) that the rest of the world wants?

UN trusteeship is not a viable form of government for anybody...

Liberia - UN Trusteeship ? ? ?

 :devious: :alien:

Tiberius - Are you suggesting that the DR go thru 14 years of Civil War to qualify for UN Trusteeship????

Haiti came very close to becoming that a few years back, but the UN maintained a Hands-Off policy and the US finally stepped in, occupied a portion, forced out the Dictator government , which allowed the Aristide government to take office. Is Haiti any better off??? I think not!

Civil war is a terrible avenue to travel for any country and should be considered ONLY as a very last resort, and only if supported by the population(?).

Look at Cuba. Look at Viet-Nam. Look at other Nations which have undergone change by that vehicle. The US is included.

Just precautionary comments.
