IB is thinking of doing, they are thinking to change to HAV or SDQ their hub, and 5th of August they did a test (not a planned one) but they decided to do that since the MIA operations where limited and the new policy of the US government giving a hard time to in transit pax.

5th of August, MIA was a mess, 75% of all of the afternoon traffic was either diverted or delayed.

Around 3PM the airport came to a closing, and the operations where suspende.

There where 2 inbound IB's A319 from GUA and San Jose, and the airline decided to have them land at HAV.

Smart move, since in HAV, there was also an IB flight outbound to MAD, and IB decided to take out of both a/c the pax that where transiting to continue to MAD.

Iberia was here also for some time with a Mini hub when Dominicana de Aviacion was still alive they have moved to Miami because the DR was fall in FAA CAT 3.

There are possibilities that Iberia will be moving out Miami to Havana, Cancun or Santo Domingo or they have alternatives in Miami, Iberia is doing well at Miami, good busy flights but with the new regulations of the US Gov. about TRANSIT visa etc...

who had told you such a nonsence?

first of all IB should quit One World and cancel code share on its route from MIA with AA.

Not a question of quitting one world - just leaving Miami

Iberia have been looking at leaving Miami for a couple of years - the big question is how much of their intransit traffic has no visas - if its close to 50% , a chnage is likely and SDQ could be a good bet

That is correct however we must first find out why Iberia moved out of SDQ in the first place. And it has nothing to do with Cat 3 by the way.

Probably Aerodom can put a decent package together to attract IBERIA - SDQ is much improved and the attraction of 4 or 5 transit flights in and out must be a good prodpect for the airport.

Lets see what happens !

Honduras was trying to lure iberia into (TGU) but the decline Havana maybe out of the race since Iberia will be doing business directly with the US that leave us with 2 choices Santo Domingo or Cancun.

I think that may be right about AERODOM and it also may lure IBERIA to start service to MIA,JFK, out SDQ. Not bad!!!

Well

Terminal B will be completed before or begin 2004 as 3 gates are owned by Mexicana de Aviacion, currently i dont no what Mexicana will do they want to Europe via SDQ so we need to wait.

Iberia can go to SDQ as SDQ will have 2 runways, 12 gates and 4/6 stands in 2004 so Iberia can go to SDQ, and what was happend that IB has move his mini-hub from SDQ to MIAMI, 1. DomRep was fall in CAT3, 2. Airport to small and not perfect (90/95), 3. Miami was a better alternative.

By the way IBERIA has flown several times via SDQ to Caracas when the crisis was in Venezeula. there was 2 daily (B742/A343) MAD-SDQ-SJU-MAD/AMD-SJU-SDQ-MAD (Standard) and A343 MAD-SDQ-CCS-MAD/MAD-SDQ-CCS-SDQ-MAD/MAD-Tenerife-SDQ-CCS-tenerife-MAD).

We need to know that Santiago STI also is a good destination for European flights, so STI wil grow in the comign years.

I think IB will stay at MIAMI if they need to move is Havana and Cancun the first choises then come SDQ

IBERIA was also interested to take over DOMINICANA DE AVIACION but the CREP had declined and give permission to Aeropostal and as Aeropostal has dropped after 2 months when the CREP has decided that Aeropostal is the new airline to wake up DOMINICANA. I dont know why CREP has declined Iberia and Lufthansa as Thomas Cook

The question is to analyse the traffic that IB has ex MAD into MIA - There are two flights per day , normally one 747 and one 340 but sometimes two 747's - they are full most of the year . The big question is the final destination of these - some are obviously connecting to other destinations in USA , but a big number maybe 50% is going onto other Caribbean destiantions

IB will not leave MIA buy may move one flight to one of the islands

SDQ and SJU are two of Iberia's most profitable destinations , so a move to either is possible although SJU would give the same problems as MIA.

I'm not sure if CUN is a real possibility - at the moment it works co taffics feed in via Miami.

SDQ has a far better position geographically to do the job

European Comunity does not need to have visa to enter into USA..they are in the Visa Waiver progam pilot plans.

Why is the reason to move such a great international Gateway to RD ????

maybe to fly Hipolito everyday ???
