I need to know what to do. I have my brith certificate from the United States. I need to take care of some legal issues in the D.R. My father past away in the D.R. In order for me to take of some things, I need to get my birth certificate certified but they told me I have to do it here, in the U.S. I have to get them certified at the D.R. consulate in the U.S. I wanted to know if this is true. I heard from some people in the D.R. that I can have them certified in the D.R. also. I want to make sure what is the correct path. I don't want to have them certified in the United States and then have to redo them in the D.R. If you can please assist me, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you.

To file a foreign birth certificate in a Dominican court you need:

a) authentication of the birth certificate at the nearest Dominican Consulate,
b) authentication of the Dominican Consul?s signature at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (?Secretaria de Estado de Relaciones Exteriores?) in Santo Domingo.
