We are looking for a nice relaxing vacation with lazing on the beach and snorkeling as our primary pursuits.

A bit undecided between finding a nice (inexpensive) little hotel in Sosua (heard good things about the Tropix) or checking into a resort in Punta Cana.

Between the two, which do you think has the best snorkeling?

Also, as we will be parents with a toddler and grandma in tow as well, is Sosua a bit too rowdy?

Alternatively, will going to a resort in Punta Cana bore us beyond reason?

So many questions!

Much appreciation for your thoughts.

Don't know about Punta Cana but had a visitor last month, who dives regularly and he spent a most enjoyable day in Sosua bay just snorkelling about. Saw lots of fish and only the odd piece of garbage in the immediate beach area!

I have heard that other than the All Inclusives in Punta Cana there is hardly a thing to do there. I prefer the North Coast although I am going to Santo Domingo tonight to catch a Dominican Crafts fair tomorrow with the Wacky Packy and some dinner and fun this evening.

I enjoy Sosua and North Coast Diving in Sosua is a class operation with great people working there.
