I have read in many places that it's necessary to have RD$500,000 in 'investments' to get residency. Is this true and, if so, is it strictly enforced?
As with most other things in the DR, I'm sure there are 'ways around it', right?

Thanks for your help!;)

using the search function then ask if things remain unclear. Also there are articles under legal http://dr1.com/legal/migration/residences.shtml

No to your question though.

Nowadays a residence visa is not longer required

During the current administration period things have changed as far as the application for residency permits are concerned.
A foreign applicant may file his/her application directly with the Direcci?n General de Migraci?n. A residency visa is not required.
