The mail service exists here in name only, and on the paychecks of its employees who show no sign of actually existing, until December, that is, when we receive a note from the postman asking for his Christmas tip. He is as about as likely to receive it as the newspaper delivery man who wakes us up every morning with the faulty silencer on his motorbike.
Anyway, the absence of a postal service is something we can live without, for the time being. There are so many urgent things for Leonel or any other future president to tackle: namely the biggies like corruption, clientilism and inefficiency.
If there are services that the Dominican people really need urgently, these are electricity, water, education, health... I don't think mail is anywhere near the top of the list of priorities.
