We are looking for any information regarding the mail service for a committee we are on to re-elect Lionel Fernandez. We want to make this one of the prmary issues since we have heard so many complaints about the mail service.

Let's explain it this way. The R.D. has male service but no mail service. Too much of one and not enough of another. Regards, PJT

LOL PJT!

The mail service exists here in name only, and on the paychecks of its employees who show no sign of actually existing, until December, that is, when we receive a note from the postman asking for his Christmas tip. He is as about as likely to receive it as the newspaper delivery man who wakes us up every morning with the faulty silencer on his motorbike.

Anyway, the absence of a postal service is something we can live without, for the time being. There are so many urgent things for Leonel or any other future president to tackle: namely the biggies like corruption, clientilism and inefficiency.

If there are services that the Dominican people really need urgently, these are electricity, water, education, health... I don't think mail is anywhere near the top of the list of priorities.

During Leonel's first term, he concentrated on the mail service and had it running quite well. Courier services, such as EPS, were feeling in danger of being put out of business. But under the current administration this changed. Now employees are demoralized and service is not trustworthy.

I agree with Chiri that there are bigger problems facing the country right now, but mail service should be somewhere on the list. But not near the top.
