Hotels field

To work at the hotels field in Punta Cana or Bavaro
you must speak spanish also, as more languages you speak
is better for you.

Hotel give 3 meals and room for you, its a little bit hard to work as assistant of manager you must show how good you are at and have good references about your skill management.

Melia Hotels I think they are hiring for a front desk dept or guest services.

One personal advice try to apply for Apple Vacation as Representative (not tranferist) apply from were you are.

(809)221-1290 Melia Hotels by the same line ask for Tour Desk extencion then ask for some Apple representative.

Good luck!

They pay more for typing in lower case letters

OK, not really buy stopp all CAPS typing please.

You are likely to make far far less than the equivalent rate in a US hotel, even if you are American. I would think expecting even $1000 US a month (e.g. 40,000 pesos) would be out of the question in a country where the minimum wage is US$100 (less really).

The idea to approach a US based vacation company like Apple Tours who have local representatives to act for them IN the resorts is a good one, although it would not surprise me if they used bilingual locals for that as well and pay them the local vs. expat rates.

Don't get your hopes up for like $50,000 US a year in the DR.

Thanx Rick; and ok ill stop the ALL CAPS.

I knew there was no way I could think that i would make as much as I make here in the US. I live in NY and if I were to move to Florida or another state in the US i wouldnt make what I make here let alone in DR. But you have to look at the fact that the cost of living is much lower as well.Im not saying its gonna be easy but its a challenge that im looking for.

thanx for the advice.

Not really accurate either

osc17ny said:

Unless you plan to live in a 10 by 10 foot non airconditioned shanty with no plumbing and cook rice and beans for yourself every day the cost of living for stuff you'd actually want is remarkably similar to the US and you won't make dick-all and you'll suffer with DR wages.

Question: (this of course has been asked of, oh, 1,000 dreamers thus far on this type of topic) have you ever BEEN to the DR? And looked at the type of accomodation etc., and the costs in the supermercado for your stuff?

To answer your question Rick I was born in DR and I own land there and I go every year ; and actually when i went in july of this year I did shopping in the supermarket so im aware of some prices for everyday goods. So its not like is something that i decided to do just yesterday or last week;ive been planning if for a while. However, im 26 years old and i do consider myself a dreamer but the difference between myself and other people is I actually work hard on accomplishing my dreams.

Now let me give you an example if havent ever lived in NY. Lets say you make $50,000 US dollars a year. Thats about 961.53 US dollars in one week. Now you need to pay taxes; you will be taking home about $800 US dollars a week. One would think you would want a nice place to live right?ok you will be paying a minimum in a decent neighborhood of $1100-$1500 a month for a one bedroom apartment. So lets say you find something nice for $1100:
(ALL ARE IN US DOLLARS A MONTH)
rent =$1100
internet=25
cable/satellite=65
telephone=50
cell phone=45
food=320
transportation to work=80
car insurance=250
gasoline for car=200
health insurance=100
going out 3 times a week and spending $50 each day=600

and the total cost per month=$2835 Your taking home $800 a week so in one month thats $3200.
3200- 2835=365. divide that by 4 weeks and you get $91.25 left in your pocket a week without saving anything or buying anything you would like. Now you might say well $91.25 is equivalent to around 3400RD and anyone over there would love to have that left in their pocket but thats when you realize your not in DR your in NY.

But remember i said lets say you make $50000 a year. The majority of people and Dominicans do not make that type of money.A good portion of them make minimum wage which is around $5.60 per hour; working 40 hours a week.Ill let you do the math on that and when you compare it, it will be just like making 3800RD a month.

What do you do Rick? if you dont mind me asking.

You will make more than that

Brother,

I had 5 year working in Punta Cana, Hotels I have being working at the frnto desk of Melia Hotel, I can grant you at any reception in Bavaro you will make at the least 10,000RD$ at all.

as representative most the travel agencies provide you a car, Gas, Hotel room and foods. so try to get in touch to apple vacation in NY or travel Impression not even that Sunquest, sunwing and Air-transat, I know there are a Local representative but there many foreign also working there.

So Apply, Brother you can have a good experience living and working there any way if you want to go to Puerto Rico there a Melia Paradisus there what is new ask to the main manager for Jose Ayala before all that email me.

I know you want to work in Bavaro, live in the dominican rep, its hard I know but try you dont have nothing to lose they provide you a training also apple vacation manage Sunscape Hotels in cabeza de Toro if you dont have chance to work as representative you have chance at the Hotels.

just talk to the big head at the Hotels

Manager of Public Relation
Manager of front desk or Room Division manager
Manager of Switchbording (phone operator)
A & B manager

I was dreaming about working in bavaro i did it and Im not regreat it because I did study for that it Hard at the begining but this is life. go ahead even for 3 month or six,

What they will requiered,

Resume
police record (dont take it untill they call you for the interview)
2 photos
ID number (passport or Cedula)
AIds test and they have some clinic to make it and the cost its around (250) pesos

Advice:
take with you at the least US150 Dollar to spend a week in a local
hotel in Bavaro (Cayacoa Hotel) or Cortecito Inn just in case they dont hire you same day and you have to expend a few days in Bavaro, I dont know so much about boca chica being Honest,

good luck. its good to work for 4 or 6 month down there if you like it you stay if not go back to NY.

good luck,

Homer simpson

its hard at the Begining when you dont know the area

Before anything Homer a million thanks about all the information you have given me. Like you said everything is hard at the beginning but its up to you to decide if you really want to succeed in whatever it is you want to do. If I stopped at everytime something got hard or someone told me that I could not do something I probably would not have accomplished anything with my life. Im not expecting it to be easy but I am expecting to work hard and succeed.

You said i would need a police record from here NY or DR?How would i get that? Lets say i begin as a representive or any other entry level position is it difficult to move up in position?

Where are you working now Homer?

thanx again

Hi

I'm agree with you,

This is how its work ?

most of the people start working at the from desk and then decide to move to Guest Services and from guest services to Tour Representative.

The problem is that, is very rarely that your boss raise a payment or move you up. People who are looking for better position they move them self to a different Hotels or Tour Company.

For example if you are working recepcionist in Paradisus Hotel and you got the info about there a new company, restaurant o
Hotel opening. there is when you get the info about payments a Comodidades (room)

I'm in Canada im studying here for a while.

When I go back to the Dominican if I need to work I will apply for
a tour operator representative or guest services at the hotel.

But, my idea is to start my own business in DR one day.

most of the employees are from, Romana, San Pedro, Boca Chica,
Santo Domigo and so much more farest places

Are these hotels always hiring? Are they always very busy?

Thats exactly what I want to do too(start a business) but first I want to take my time and feel everything out.

So how was your experience there? As far as living there do you have access to a lot of things like exercise gym, swimming pool etc..?As far as nightlife do you have a lot to do?

Would you happen to have the number to Apple vacations?

thanx again

I had good experience

Its was great experience about team work, friendship, meeting peoples every single day because its a small town when you are good person you meet many friends. Even at the supermaket, Barbershops and many places.

At work its like every were some times there a idiot that think is the owner of the company we call them pico chatos o tumba polvos every single hotels has one.

About night life.

You have the freedom to go out every time and every where not every body has acces to the gym or disco at the hotel that you work at but there is Mangu Disco in flameco Hotel, Areito in Princes Hotels, Huracan Cafe, Soles Bar, Disco Pacha en Riu Hotels, Club Med, Casinos Riu, Paradisus, Barcelo and Melia.
There is a Super market, there Local Hotels.

night life is "Everyday is Saturday"
Outside the Hotels there a Gym that you can join
Night Clubs La Punta and El Pachi Pachi.

Well I got some money I would like to start a disco in Bavaro
close to plaza Bavaro or in Cortecito a big disco. people always go out there. because there are in Vacation or people who work at the Hotel get tired to be inside the Hotel and they want to go out so people spend in Hipo-pesos, US dollar, Canadian dollar, Euro, Ponds, Swiss ......

I dont have apple vacation phone Number but in New York or Jersy have a office. I recomend you work like a Representative or Guest services not front desk.

Melia caribe Tropical Hotels (809)221-1290
Paradisus (809)687-9923
Fiesta Hotels
Flamenco Hotel = ?
Sunquest Vacation = send resume to main office in Canada
Apple Vacation = send resume to main office in State
Sunwing = send resume to main office in Canada
Prieto Tour =
Conquest = send resume to main office in Canada
Coco Tours =
vacances Airtransat = send resume to main office in Canada
Travel Impresion or GOGO tour = send resume to main of in states
Iberostar =
Club Med =

Tour operator can give u info about the distanation they are Hiring

ask for Human resurces the can tell you
www.superpagesdr.com you can get Hotels phone number if not

Sounds like you had a lot of fun working there Homer.

I went on Apple vacation's web site and they do not have an office in NY they had offices in Chicago and Philadelfia and other states. Ill maybe call one of those offices and ask them how do I apply.

Hey Homer you and me have the same business idea.Maybe we will be able to do something in the future.I only went to Bavaro once this past summer and I heard about Mangu but I thought to myself that a really nice disco could work there. Would it be hard to start?Would the hotels have something against that?

thanx for the phone numbers

Hotels are not against

Hotel are not against the only problem is to get the permit for construction from Politur or Turism Minister its takes long but with money problem will be solve.

Its got to work why ? 95% of the emplyees doesnt have acces to the disco o bar when you are working at the Hotel and Touris who are at the resort get tired to see the same people at the Disco and the animation staff.

see you later.

CAPCANA

Capcana has so much to say, just let me tell that many fisher guys were living at Juanillo beach where now the Big heads are building many stuff.

Sorry for my english is not good.

What made me have a business in the Dominican Rep. specially Touristic area is the way I worked down there. My wife is Canadian, being honest to you to work for six month or a year its ok but not more than that. To work in Bavaro its good to get Tourism experience you see the tourism life in many ways.

Why? Im 26, Im in the DR the is not a retirement plan,
my wife and I, we want to live there but having a Business not matter what.

Colmadon con Musica.
Farmacia
Discotec
Taller de Mecanica
Caba?as
Contruccion de apartamentos (para rentarlos)
Venta de Arroz al por mayor.

You can work for a short time in DR then you can see what kind of business you can open there.
Or go back to NY.

ask to some other people later on about what kind of business will they open if they have money.

I decided to go to DR about 3 1/2 years ago; but I really did not know what to do for a business; so i thought to myself it is always good to own (land, house, business, etc..) so I built a house in my parent's home town of Yamasa which is in the provincia of Monte Plata. I never thought of actually living in Yamasa but like I said before it is good to own something. Now if I want I could sell it for more money, Im currently renting it out now or in the future i could use it as a weekend home.

So I would go every year to DR but just did not know what to get into until 2 things happened when I went this past summer.
(1) I went to Bavaro for the first time. As soon as I got there I said to myself and my cousins that were with me"this is what I have been looking for". There is so much opportunity right now but even more opportunity for future growth.

(2)Whem i missed my plane when i was coming back(even though i wasnt in a hurry to come back) i stayed in the airport for about 4 or 5 hours and saw how many people came from all over the world. I was amazed. I knew tourism was big but i just did not know it was that big. So then i knew it has to be something related to tourism.

Lets say you want to start or buy a business and you have some money but not all of it. Can and will banks help you? If so, is it difficult? Im asking this because i think all the foreigners that ow all those hotels are not investing all there own money. but i could be wrong.

Dont worry about your english i can understand it fine.

Hey im 26 too but not married yet; but one day I hope to be. Hows married life treating you?

Banks

Banks can helps of course you mean like getting loans from the bank. invester always use the banks people never use the money they have, probably 25-50% and then the bank take the aproval loans procces.

I dont know how its work but most of the people use bank for invest and business.

About marriage stuff, I can say I'm happy and we are open to talk about problems or business stuff but the best thing is we have good comunication. its a long history. maybe one day if you come to Canada we can talk about business and family.

you can email me any time brother. my mother live in NY also, she is a Nurse, she lives in Morris Av. close to the Yankee stadium Bronx.

Take care.

PS: Let me know if you got any interview

Well here in the US it's all about credit. Having good credit helps you get loans for cars, houses, businesses, etc... Having good credit means paying your bills on time, paying your credit card bills on time etc.... The better credit you have the easier it is to get approved for a loan and the less you pay in interest. I asked my godfather who lives in DR and has his own business in Santo Domingo if the banks where the same over there and he said no; but when I go I will find out how it works.

After trust, communication is second most important thing in any relationship.Hopefully one day I will be as lucky to find someone I can talk to about anything. I love to travel and I would love to visit Canada (when it's not that cold) and talk about everything but seriously the only trip that I am getting ready for physically and mentally is the move to DR. If everything goes according to plan I should be in DR in the middle of February.

I live in Brooklyn. My mom is a home attendant its like a nurse but she goes to the persons house. Do you ever come to NY and visit your mom?

I will definetly let you know if a get any interviews. About the interviews, how should you dress? Here we wear a suit and tie. Should my resume be in English or Spanish or does it matter?

When are you planning on returning to DR?

Hey you can email me anytime at osc17ny@aol.com

take care
