Our little group of baseball+travel nuts is converging on Santo Domingo next February for the Serie del Caribe. We did the Serie in Puerto Rico this year.

This will be our first trip to Santo Domingo and we need all kinds of advice, especially on where to stay. Also, is it a good idea to rent a car, or can we get by on cabs and buses?

We've found two places that interest us so far, the Palacio and the Barcelo Naiboa Caribe. Can you tell anything about either one? We'd like to be sort of close to Estadio Quisqueya, but the Barcelo Naiboa Caribe is an all-inclusive, which is a good deal, and we're not exactly rich.

Appreciate any tips you can offer.

That hotel puts you about 40 minutes drive away from the Stadium as it is closer to Juan Dolio/Boca Chica beaches than to the Stadium. Actually it is located next to Embassy Beach. Remember most of the baseball games will be at night. If you prefer to stay at an out of town beach hotel, then the option would be to contract a taxi driver/van for the commute every evening.

Dolores--

Thanks for replying. Which hotel puts us 40 minutes from the stadium, the Palacio or Barcelo Naiboa Caribe?

The Barcelo Naiboa. The Palacio you are refering to, could be the Barcelo Palace, which is in Punta Cana. That would be about 4 hours from the stadium.

Dolores--

Thanks for replying. It sounds as if the Barcelo Naiboa Caribe might work for us, if we rent a car. But I'll find to find an alternative hotel closer to the stadium, hopefully one that's less than $100 per night. We don't need a 5-star hotel and we're not gamblers, so we don't need casinos.

I would think you can find many hotels in that range in Santo Domingo. A taxi will be about US$5 from the stadium to your city hotel. My recommendation would be to stay in Santo Domingo. It is best to avoid driving at night. You may want to email johnny.bernal@naco.com.do

He is the president of the National Hotel & Restaurant Association and owner of the Hotel Clarion Santo Domingo in the Naco area, that puts you about a five minute drive from the stadium. He can direct you to the right people to handle your reservation.

Dolores--

Thanks for all your help.

I sent an e-mail to Johnny and I hope to hear from him next week. It would nice to find a place to stay that's relatively near the stadium and also near some sites of interest, so we don't have to rent a car.

Aside from the baseball, is there something in Santo Domingo that we should make a special effort to do or see in the week that we're there, the one thing we absolutely should not miss?

Hotels are set...ticketing question

Who should we contact about ordering tickets for the games in February? All we can find on the Web are stories about the order in which the teams will play.
