Still a favorite of mine here is the view across Sosua Bay toward Isabel de Torres and Puerto Plata at sunset. Gorgeous. An excellent location to take in the scene is on the little point of land (there's a sidewalk) behind Sosua-by-the-Sea just east and above the beach at Casa Marina. The point sticks a little further out into the ocean so the view is different than you can get actually on Sosua Beach or somewhere in between, but a SB sunset looking over IDT is beautiful as well.

West end of Las Terrenas beach

I took this picture on the west end of Las Terrenas beach, in front of Playa Colibri, towards "La Playa Perdida" point.

On the patio of the restaurant at Hotel Waterfront in Sosua with a bottle of good wine, a seafood platter and a hot woman. That's where I asked Isabel to marry me.

Its a little different perspective, but the sun setting over the city of Santiago and the Cibao valley from the veranda outside the restaurant at Camp David can also be beautiful.

Road conditions

The highways to Mao are fine. The road up to Villa Elisa is great, but the 22 km in to the beach are unpaved but leveled. Easily accesible by car or SUV....Besides when you get to the beach it is all worth it..

And I can second the other suggestions of Sosua and Camp David

Yes the view from Camp David is incredible. I shot some video up there but can't remember if I got a sunset or not. I just might have to go back etc!

Camp David??

Camp David is a former Trujillo retreat located high above Santiago. Excellent food and nice rooms - somewhat isolated. Don't know how it got it's name though. Hillbilly will probably be able to tell us.

I once took some awsome sunset pics from behind the Acuario Nacional in the capital. There's nice large patio in the back that has a rail on the small cliffs. The view of the sun setting over the caribbean and the capital was quite stunning. Unfortunately back then I didn't have a digital camera, so can't post them here.

The company you're with makes all the difference, though....
