This may be a dumb question but since I have never been to Santo Domingo I want to know how the shopping is. Is there any enclosed shopping malls similar to what you find in the states? I have only been to puerto plata area and there was absolutely no shopping at all. I want to take advantage of the peso devaluation and spend from usd but need to know the best place to go. Especially interested in watches and jewelry. Thanks in advance...........

There are still some good buys, but you need to shop around. Visit Plaza Central, Bella Vista Mall, Diamond Mall, La Sirena, Plaza Lama, Americana Departamentos. Do not have high expectations on jewelry, as this may be already been converted to dollar prices.

There are indeed enclosed shopping malls as were just mentioned. Depending partly on where you are from, you might be very woefully dissapointed though concerning their size. They are really pretty small. Plaza Central probably has the most stores.
