In today's papers there's an article about an audit that was performed to Plan Renove. If I understand correctly the purpose of this plan was to help those involved in public transportation maintain an updated fleet of vehicles.
According to the article there are 210 vehicles "lost". Nobody knows who got them. In addition there are numerous vehicles that are abandoned at different ports.
One of the companies that imported these vehicles (Hyunday Americas Corporation) does not even have a tax ID. It's not clear whether they are even authorized to do business in the DR.
The treasurer of the plan, who jkust happens to be an executive at a bus company (TerraBus) received 4 Volvo buses, 14 Kia mini-buses, 3 Aero-city buses, 9 Hyunday buses, and a bunch of other vehicles, totaling more than 1.8 million USD.
The director of the plan received vehicles for more than 4.5 million USD.
These vehicles were assigned to these people by order of The Hippo himself.
A few of the driver associations ("syndicates") that received a lot of these vehicles are not even registered as such with the secretary of labor (as required).
The executive secretary of the plan (Mr. Fabio Ruiz) who gets a salary of 40k pesos for this post, also gets a salary of 26.5k pesos as sub-director of AMET.
What a mess! Will anybody go to jail for this? Will anybody even lose their jobs over this? I don't think so.
To those wondering what was done with all those millions of dollars borrowed over the last few years this is an example of how they were spent.
Now the country is indebted for a long time and what did we get in return?
