My wife and I are visiting the north coast (Puerto Plata) in middle May and We are very excited. I intend on bringing some gifts to the local people and their children (school supplies etc) but I had great luck when I bartered my watch and tee shirt at a market in Punta Cana 2 years ago. Can you do this, if so where can we, and what should I bring to barter with? We are coming from the states so I can get just about anything--Baseball stuff, watches, tees anything. We love to do this and it builds a great kindship between people. It has worked all over and I am hoping it will in the DR :cheeky:

Don't have an answer about bartering, but I can help you with your school supply donations. Please read the Fundacion Patria thread. There is mucho info about how you can help the school children in the Puerto Plata area.

Please email me if you have further questions.

Enjoy your Dominican experience :)
