Puerto Plata 1st June - 14th June 2004

Hi, don't know if anyone can help?

I've been keeping an eye on the weather conditions in the Dominican for the last few weeks as myself and my wife are flying out and staying in Puerto Plata from 1st June - 14th June

This morning we read this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/3744277.stm

And this: http://www.dr1.com/#1

Is there anyone that can let me know if Puerto Plata is affected by these weather conditions and if it's raining 24/7?

We are not sure whether to fly out and are trying to get as much information as possible

Many thanks

Steve

Nodody can anticipate the weather that far in advance, not even the weatherman, but I can tell you that the heavy rains that caused the floods you referred to, are not in the POP area and occured in low lands.
That being said, even on rainy days, there is usually enough sun here and there to toast you nice and pink.

I am flying out from the UK to Puerta Plata for 2 weeks.
What has happened will not affect the area we are staying, if the weather is poor there's still many things for you to do and see!

Weather concerns

I'm also pretty concerned with the recent severe storms...and I'm also going to be in Puerto Plata from June 3rd - 14th. Has anyone heard anything new about when the meteorologists in DR predict the storms will start to calm down? The images & news coming out of DR are so devastating with regards to the storms. I hope for the sake of the Haitians and the Dominicans that things get better and not worse. For us vacationers, we'd only have to deal with it for the time we're there...but for those living there, it's the reprocussions that are the worst I'd imagine.

We are in the Occidental gran Flamenco in Playa Dorada. Do you know where you are going or is your accomodation allocated on arrival?

Its the swollen rivers and flooding that has took the lives, caused by heavy rain. One report i read today talked of it stopping within the next two days.
Any 'vacationers' (like yourself) staying in the north will be safe. I am no expert and i do not know where you are from but.............bad weather and a disaster in Southern scotland would not make me feel endangered in the middle of England.

Enjoy your holiday!

I'm from NYC.....so no, a storm in California wouldn't have me worried. :classic:
However, a storm like that can travel around and possibly afflict other areas...that's why I was asking.

I really appreciate everyone's comments.

Puerto Plata Weather Update

Reports from Puerto Plata are of cloudy skies, mugginess. Rain is expected. But to tell from the general picture for the country, good weather seems to be around the corner. Let's wait and see.

We stayed there last year and also once before. I was going to go there this time but a good deal came up for the gran Flamenco.
I really like the hotel you are going to - its beach is 'smack-bang' next to the 2nd pool, its got one of Playa Doradas 3 casinos (in my opinion its the best one) the entertainment staff are v good - all round v nice hotel.

If you are into Golf - the resort is built around a course, my hotel is just 2 hotels down the beach (2 mins walk along the beach)

You will be able to watch England vs France over there won't you?

C'MON!

To those staying at the Grand Flamingo

We stayed at the Grand Flamingo in March 2004. We had a great time. The front desk staff are very rude. The first night you will stay in a crappy room, they advised us that this is policy and then you are moved to a better room after lodging complaints on the 2nd day. Buildings 11, 12, 13 are closer to the beach. We were moved to building 10, right outside the main pool and near the nightly entertainment. If you like to go to bed before 11:00 p.m. I do not recommend this building.

If you take a long walk on the right side of the beach there are some locals that will make you a fish dinner and Presidente. Dinner for 4 was $5.00 us.
