I just looked at that. We was going to have a 200,000 post competition, looks like we will now have to do it for 1/4 million mark. At current posting rates we should see that happen around December this year.

What's interesting is that for every member browsing online, we have at least 4-5 guests at the same time.

Some 2004 stats:

Most Posts in 1 day - 449 (May 26, 2004)
Most Users signed up in 1 day - 41 (May 26, 2004)
Most New Threads posted in 1 day - 45 (May 26, 2004

Top 20 posters:

Ken 4,250
Hillbilly 4,041
Criss Colon 3,529

But, how many members are there that come in for a few days and then dissapear or do not post again?.

Give me a few more months and I will be the POST LEADER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, hehe.
(I thought that jazzcom and Escott were the same person)

Lets see, Ken, Hb, CC, Anna, Escott, AZM, etc, Shi*, I have never seen more troublemakers in one group, in my life!!!!!!!!

From a post I made in this thread:
http://www.dr1.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31750

I just ran some numbers out of curiosity.

Since Jan-May 04 we have had 1,891 new people sign up.
Of those 1,891 newbies, 284 (15%) had made 10 or more posts since they signed up.
Looks like our newbies are pretty active by message board standards.

As of May 04, 763 (40+%) of those newbies still logged in and read the board on a regular basis. 40+% retention over 5 months is VERY good for any message board.

So what does the above tell me? Newbies are posting and they are staying.
This is despite the fact that our traffic is very transiant, due to 70+% of our site visitors looking for travel/tourism related info for their upcoming vacation etc.

Sometimes the numbers surprise me...

As a newbie...

From my point of view, I am greatly looking forward to my upcoming trip to the DR and I'm trying to soak up as much info as I can.

I now know to venture out of the AI, carry a few extra pesos for the traffic cops, wag my finger to mean "no" to beach vendors, and to make sure the sankies stay away from my wife. Though, I have no idea how to do that and meet up with the sankettes at the same time.

Its because the regulars here seem to be caring and polite but also opinionated and willing to express themselves.

I feel like I am getting a good idea of what live is like in the DR. (Right or wrong.) And because there is such a wide array of issues and opinions, I bounce back and forth from wanting to move there myself to "just knowing" I couldn't handle the third world conditions.

These boards take my out of the US and fuels my excitement over our upcoming trip. And has me looking forward to posting a trip report on our return.

If we are lucky we may meet a few of those who live there and these boards can help us to keep in touch.

Kudos, and again, thanks for being here.

Robert, I feel honoured to be in the top 20 - only just - but part of me can't help thinking "I-am-so-sad-I-really-must-get-a-life". If you add Escott and jazzcom's totals, the top 20 will be complete once it includes the one and only Jane J., who, as those Smashy and Nicey blokes would say, 'is just bubbling under'.

Many many thanks to you and Dolores for the wonderful world that is DR1.
