Bus or taxi

Hansbert,

You can take one of the guaguas from Higuey or a taxi.

The down side of taking the guagua is they are very crowded, there is no luggage space unless you want to pay for an extra seat, the uncertainty of the time needed to transit and to make transfers if needed. The cost is about RD$ 45 more or less - note: it is hard to keep up with changes in the local fares. The Juanillo guagua will bring you by the airport. The Bavaro guagua can bring you as far as the *Veron crossroad and then you get off there and you can catch another bus at an additional cost going in the direction of the airport or walk to the nearby Tourist - Beron taxi stand to hire a taxi to take you the remainder of the distance, 3-4 miles, to the airport.

You least stressful, but at a higher cost is to take a taxi from Higuey direct to the airport. The distance is about 28 mi/45 km about 45 min. The cost should be around RD$ 800. Negotiate the price first and write it down in front of the driver, that way it will be hard for him to slink in a higher rate when you arrive at the airport.

You can catch the guaguas on Av Libertad on the side of the street opposite the Shell gas station. You will find taxi's near the Sitrabapu bus station on Av Libertad and the Sichoprola bus station facing the cathedral.

Regards,
PJT

* The spelling of the location, Veron or Beron, varies with the government and the locals. It is pronounced the same.

Beron taxi

Hi,
3 weeks ago I went from Punta Cana airport to Higuey with local Taxi Beron (tel. 552-1013) for 700 R$ (thanks PJT for the hint). It takes about 45 minutes.
