Fishing for my meals

Well folks, now that I have your attention; I'm about to beat a dead horse to death again (not the one along the road as mentioned in previous posts). I'm sure you all have seen this type of question bantered about before. In a few years, my wife and I will be retiring to the Bavarro area. I would like to know from your own experiences or knowledge of what is the best way to formulate a household goods move from the states to the island. I'm not planning to take the kitchen sink, just the things near and dear to me: #1, a security blanket, #2 patience ...patience ...patience.

My wife (expatriate Dominicana-30 yrs) and I (New England Yankee) do have housing with minimal furnishings at Bavarro. Yet, before we do move to the island, we will be selling off our house in the states and be dealing with the material goods acquired over the years. My own recommendation is to sell off almost everything, turn it into money, transit to the island, go to the casinos, lose the money, then have to fish for my meals (remind me to take the fishing rods and tackle).

On the serious side, I would like some of your esteemed feedback regarding the dos and don'ts of an international move, ie: what to take (tools?), to leave behind (certain relatives); and services to use.

Awaiting your response. Have fun.

Thanks, PJT
