I've heard stories about "don't leave the resort, you'll get robbed". How accurate is this if you are a single woman who is extremely comfortable and aware when traveling? One of the things I most enjoy is getting out and exploring the city, of course using my common sense. I have darker skin so blend in. I feel more comfortable by myself in mexico and jamaica than i do in most big US cities, just wanted to see what the feeling was about Puerto Plata.

never mind

Never mind. I searched the site and found my answer, and it was as I assumed. I think it may be partially because people assume people with darker skin are crime-prone (read the statistics and studies- it's been proven). Now I am really excited about my trip.
