I am interested in outsourcing my companies customer service department to the DR. in SD. No phone exchange. No sales of any kind. Simply need good computer typing skills and fair english.
Need all the info and references I could get, the whole ABC?s of how and where to get started.
Need lawyer, manager, staff, location etc?
How much should I pay the reps and the managers? Looking for 200 potential employees.
Any one who has had any experience in setting up a call center or custumer service department in DR. Please send me your tips and experiences?
CV's welcome.

We have a few threads on call centers. I would come down here and take a good look at existing centers. I'm sure some people on the board must know some call center managers here.

In regards to rates:

Recent post in a thread: http://dr1.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34966

-------------

I have come across people that offer tech support, phone call assistance and even live translation services and none have come close to earning US$1,000 monthly.

This is what I was told Verizon was paying a few months ago to do their customer support.

Excellent language skills with no accent : RD$55-60/hr
With Latin accent: RD$39/hr
Training: RD$19.5/hr

Even if you?re good, you?re looking at US$1.60hr.

Why Santo Domingo??

Consider other locations, Sosua, Puerto Plata, Punta Cana, etc. There are very few native English speakers in Santo Domingo, nor in Santiago. But, . . . many Americans [usually considered native English speakers], Canadians, & Brits on the north coast. Fish in more promsising waters; food for thought.

You would really be surprised how many english speakers there are in the capital!! And they english sounds for the most part american, much more so than most brits. and the foreign folks won't work for the money.

I have only posted this morning and I am overwhelmed by the response I received.
Thanks a lot guys!
For all of you that have ? PM ? me I will be replying shortly as I am completing my cost analyst.
This forum is incredible!!! I have found more help here then 10hrs on the phone with my Dominican consultant.
Now that I have some idea of the rates. I also would like to know if there are any advantages for this kind of business to setup in the free zone.
I have heard that with all the labor laws and unions, setting up in the Dominican can get quite complicated and that once you hire someone it's almost impossible to fire them, specially when you?re a foreigner?!
Any companies in the DR handle payroll and human resources or should I simply get a good accounting firm (any references?)?! I only want to work with the best and the most reputable, price is not necessarily an issue.

Gratefully,

Robert

Lots of call centers in the free zones. The advantage is that you contract employee and labor management to a third party.

I would go take a look at some. Doing this from a distance is not going to be easy.

Any referrence for such third parties. I am planning a trip by the end of the month, but I am trying to gather as much info as possible.
Does anybody know if it's preferable to buy the hardware in the DR or to bring our own stations?

I have been working with callcenters here and in other Countries - it is a little complicated in reference to the setup. Definitely bring the equipment down as the cost here is probably 25% higher and its imported from the same location. The setup will require for you to have two main ingredients here - A VERY GOOD ATTORNEY and a VERY GOOD ACCOUNTANT - between the two of them, you will be able to review your options and decide on which avenue is best.

Don't be shy to mention any names of good accountants or good attorneys you may know of.

Thanks

Actually, we are still hiring ... unfortunately it is taking sometime to set up in the FREE Trade zone. I will get back to you some time after the Holidays. We are looking to hire over 50 reps... However if the pesos continues it's hike this number might be cut to half!

I hope to hear something from you my e-mail address is olijf72@hotmail.com.

Thank you very much for now,

regards,
