hi. i'm planning on spending january and february in DR, originally i was gonna buy a scooter in SD, they go for around $2000 USD, but just today i found out that for that kind of $ i can buy a bike twice as good here in toronto. what kind of import tax would i have to pay, or could i send it there for 2 months and then sent in back here without paying any taxes? thanks alot.

bikes don't pay duty

Bikes don't pay duty which doesn't mean that the 'custom official' won't want u to pay something when u come thru the airport with your baggage and your bike. It may be advisable to buy your bike here instead and may be cheaper and then you can take it with you and that will be easier.

Ummmm

When you say "bike," do you mean bicycle or motorcycle? If motorcycle, I have been told that the customs fees are extremely high.
