The Ministry of Interior and Police has declared that the forming of parallel police forces, specifically the Municipal Police, in the various city halls of many Dominican cities is illegal. Last year, the infamous PRD/PPH government of Hipolito Mejia authorized the assembling of these parallel forces, through the minister of interior and police of that time, a close collaborator of the PPH faction of the PRD government.

In addition to providing handguns at an accelerated and happy rate to party members, the previous government also established these paramilitary forces in city halls across the country, controlled by them in over 90% of the cases.

A very dangerous situation for the central government and for the citizenry at large; hopefully this prohibition will take effect soon and leave things in a more orderly manner with the National Police, with its own internal problems, as the main authority for police business.
