Wow! This is what I was looking for! We are going to DR for the first time, and I had heard all the hype about it being dangerous and not going off the resort - blah, blah, blah.....but my husband and I travel a lot and were hoping that we'd have a blast off the resort. This site just confirms that!
We are going to Bayahibe for a week in Dec. We are bringing clothing to give away locally and are also looking into bringing medications for a local clinic....does anyone have any suggestions or expereince doing this and where do you go to give it away so that it ends up being used well and fairly? Is there anything else that we can bring to leave there? toys?
Also, we are looking for a ride/driver from Santo Domingo airport on Dec. 11....any suggestions? is a taxi better or is there a bus?
AND, we want to do some diving, hiking, climbing....off the resort....any recommendations of local operators?
We also want to meet local people and find out more about the culture....any suggestions for books to read, websites to visit, etc. Before I went to Costa Rica this summer, I read up on the culture and customs and it made such a difference in how I expereinced the country. Any good suggestions?
Whew,.....so many questions...but am hungry for information!! Am so looking forward to our visit now! Thanks for starting this thread!
