I was bitten by something on my trip to Sosua last week, and when it started to swell I dicided to go to the doctor. Since I was closing on and moving to a new apartment, I had no time to go to bournigal in POP. My Diminican girlfriend said I should to to Dr. Quinoz in Charamicos, but of course I, the New York Jew, decided to go to Servi-Med where the gringos go, and the doctor is German, etc. Long story short, after two days of bungled treatment at Servi-Med where they showed absolutely no competence, I went to Dr. Quiroz. By that time I had swelled up like a grapefruit, and he had to shoot me up with drugs and drain my infection. He repeated the treatment again the following morning right before I left town. Quick, effecient, no bullshit, knew exactly what to do (while Servi-Med just scratched their heads and wrote prescriptions) - he was great. - D

Have you taken this complaint up with the doctors at Servi-Med or have you just posted this to slag them off???

I know many people that have been treated correctly with the utmost care and professionalism at Servi-Med.

My brother-in-law, a UK doctor, was most impressed with them when treating my neice 2 weeks ago.

To the best of my knowledge there are no German doctors at Servi-Med, Gideon the main partner is a German trained Israeli (and probably a Jew!!) so maybe you have some historical paranoia about Germans as you eloquently describe yourself as a New York Jew.

The JEW theme just ended. Whoever continues it, will find access to the board very hard.

As I was saying, I did not recieve effective treatment at Servi-Med and feel that my decision to go there was partly based on my own prejudice. Perhaps I'm wrong, but maybe someone will benefit by my experience. - D

Danny, the Doctors at Servi-Med have been very good to us. We take most of the basic family-medicine type things, eg. 'flu', 'headache', 'hurt my muscle', 'knocked my head surfing', 'fell off the motoconcho' type things and so on to Gideon. If we need a chiropractor, we go there - they now have a dentist which my husband has been to and he is satisfied. But there are other Doctors besides Gideon in the practice. They have a new Doctor there and I'm sure he is a competent physician but I, or my family, do not have experience with him. I also cannot say that Doctors never make mistakes. In my opinion, Doctors are the service givers to mankind that needs the closest oversight as they so quickly develop these "messiah type" complexes.... ;)

We've just had the experience in our family that if it was not for a Doctor at the servi-med clinic, one of our loved ones would have been in serious danger. This doctor immediately called in specialist advice and everything worked out well.

It would be helpful to the whole community if you could tell us which Doctor you went to and if we could give that practitioner the opportunity to either learn from your experience, or to give his/her opposing view of what you said. Please understand me clearly, I'm not talking flame wars, I'm simply talking about making things clear.

So, the question is, who took care of you and why do you say they 'scratched their heads and wrote prescriptions'? I would be happy to take this to the clinic and ask for answers. What do you say? Shall do we do this?

I think I made a mistake starting this post. One's medical attention is a very personal thing, and I have always heard good things about Servi-Med. Perhaps my experience was an anomaly, and I'm making too much of it. My first visit was with Gideon, and he was very gracious. I left feeling that everything would be fine. My second visit was with the other doctor; I believe he is Dominican. He too was very personable. Gideon also came in at the end of my second visit. I do feel that it was obvious during my second visit that I had a potentially serious problem that required more "hands on" treatment. As soon as Dr. Quiroz saw me he literally "dug in" with agressive treatment and insisted on seeing me first thing the next morning.

While I was in the waiting room at Servi-Med I saw 2 other patients with surfing related cuts. I had the feeling that the partice there was more suited to that kind of ailment. Honestly, I'm uncomfortable meddling in such a serious area that I know little about. I just wanted to report my experience. I know that being a Dominican doesn't make you a better or worse doctor, I was merely pointing out my own flawed judgement.- D

my own experience with Servi-Med

Danny,

I'm sorry it didn't work out for you; I had treatment from Gideon as well in Cabarete (if they are the same doctors; he's a handsome, blue eyed Domenican looking and dressing Israeli) and he diagnosed me quickly and the prescribed treatment worked fine.

Only thing was I had to wait for him to come over (he prob was in Sosua) which took about 20 mins.

I'm also happpy that Dr Quiroz fixed things quickly for you.

Cheers,

MD
