In Puerto Rico, the newly-elected governor, Anibal Acevedo, has nominated Dominican-born Dr. Rosa Perez Perdomo as Secretary of Health for his 2004-2008 term. Dr. Perez is a professor at the University of Puerto Rico's School of Public Health. She has lived in P.R. for over 25 years, is married, and has two children born on the island. Dr. Perez' nomination has to be approved by the Senate (which is controlled by the opposition party), but has been well-received in general. It goes beyond saying that the Dominican population living in P.R. is very happy with the new governor's selection. With his selection, the governor has, in some measure, recognized the contributions made by Dominicans to P.R. Congratulations to both!
