Duarte street trivia
On Independence Day, 27 February, the city of Providence, Rhode Island unveiled the new Juan Pablo Duarte Boulevard street sign at its annual Dominican Independence Day celebration that was held at City Hall. Mayor David Cicillini unveiled it and spoke of the importance of the Dominican community in Providence during the ceremony. Present as special guests were Providence Councilman Miguel Luna, Senator Juan Pichardo (RI), State Representative Grace Diaz (RI), Juan Troncoso President of Quisqueya en Accion in Providence, Dominico Cabral who is the Dominican consul from Boston, and Cid Wilson, president of the Dominican American National Roundtable in Washington, DC.
According to records held by the Dominican American National Roundtable, there will now be four cities in the United States with streets named after Juan Pablo Duarte: Providence, RI; New York, NY; Jersey City, NJ; and Miami, FL.

Thank you for posting those links! These are the images and Dominican-Americans I know. Not the false image the DR like to project as Dominicanyorks or cadenuses etc. Most of the people pictured came from NYC and have changed the face and history of Providence forever more.

Juan P and Cid look dashing as usual. They are both congressional material all the way.

PEACE

These are the people that I try to surround myself with. It's embarrasing to speak about the DR sometimes with all the bad things going on, but whenever I read about Cid and a few others and their activities for Dominicans in the US, it gives us a good name. And yes, they need to get their political careers going already, specially Cid. Excellent candidate IMO.

I just don't like the ignorant, scapegoat bum rap we get for the problems that occur in DR to Dominicans and by Dominicans.

As for Cid, he's just making money. Let him. We will eventually have to cough up money to do the fundraisers for him (and a few others Dominican-Americans) anyway...until I'll keep mi peso invested. LOL

Our cohort is slowly moving to center stage. IMO old DR-style politicking needs to take a step to the backburner. There in lies the true success of Rhode Island style politics...they're the new wave of Dominican-American progressive activism in action.

Ciao
