Duarte street trivia
On Independence Day, 27 February, the city of Providence, Rhode Island unveiled the new Juan Pablo Duarte Boulevard street sign at its annual Dominican Independence Day celebration that was held at City Hall. Mayor David Cicillini unveiled it and spoke of the importance of the Dominican community in Providence during the ceremony. Present as special guests were Providence Councilman Miguel Luna, Senator Juan Pichardo (RI), State Representative Grace Diaz (RI), Juan Troncoso President of Quisqueya en Accion in Providence, Dominico Cabral who is the Dominican consul from Boston, and Cid Wilson, president of the Dominican American National Roundtable in Washington, DC.
According to records held by the Dominican American National Roundtable, there will now be four cities in the United States with streets named after Juan Pablo Duarte: Providence, RI; New York, NY; Jersey City, NJ; and Miami, FL.
