We are for 3 weeks in Las Galeras. What day-trips (excursions) can be done from Las Galeras?
Thanks for your info!

Day trips from Las Galeras:

1. The unmissable Playa Rincon by road: only accessible with trailbike, 4WD vehicles or quadbike. Visit the Iguanario at Los Tocones and Laguna Salada (signposted) on the way there. Or, take a water taxi from Las Galeras beach to Playa Rincon. The beach is indescribably beautiful and there are a couple of locally run restaurants serving freshly caught seafood served in the local way, often with delicious coconut bread.

2. Samana town - a 24 km drive from LG. Nice seafront promenade, good restaurants (we like Le France), Protestant Church, CEBSE (nature conservation) museum, whale watching trips in season (which is coming to an end now).

3. Salto Limon - a little further on from Samana, involves a 1-2 hour trek on foot or horseback to a spectacular waterfall.

4. Playa El Valle - turn right off the road from Las Galeras just before you get to Samana town.

5. Other beaches in the area, on foot, horseback or wheels - information can be found in Las Galeras.

6. Boca del diablo - blowhole, scenic setting, but seek advice on security as there have been robberies from tourists on the road there.

Longer day trips could take you as far as other tourist towns like Las Terrenas which has a more lively scene than LG and the beaches in the area are also worth visiting.

If you prefer non-touristy towns try Sanchez, once an important port and now a fishing town with some interesting Victorian houses. I once drove to Rio San Juan (to visit Laguna Gri Gri) and back in one day, but that was too much. Other typical north coast towns include Nagua and Cabrera...

Please feel free to send me a PM if you want more specifics.

?Buen viaje!
