Por and Para are one of the complexities of Spanish grammar.
1) The usage is not interchangeable.
2) I suggest you provide examples of 5 sentences in English with "for". Then I or (someone else) will tell you if it's "por" or "para" and why. I think if you understand the logic behind it meaning one over the other it will take you a long way.

4 para unless the house is providing some sort of emplyment. like a cas de cambio. Then it would be por. I assume the meaning is that you are woking to buy a new hose. Then para is used. Because like I said, buying the house is the end result.

And for 5/6 instead of the passive (ser /fue) it is simpler to use preterite, e.g
5. Escrib? este libro (I wrote the book)
6. Escribi? este libre para m? (He/she wrote the book for me)
Passive might be a little premature as a basic. And as I understand it less common than we use it.
Also really the Yo is a wasted pronoun with properly conjugated verbs other than to express the pronoun particularly. e.g yo instead of tu ( I did it but SHE didn't as an example).
I realize the accents are a true pain on a non latin keyboard. Tip: use babelfish.altavista.com to re-translate and then cut and paste their accented words.

My point was to talk actively not passively which is not as common e.g., not this book was written by (or for) me but I wrote the book or he/she wrote the book for me. We talk more passively in English.
