Fernandez visit - FYI

Well, I was one of the 70, more or less, Dominicans greeting the President today. There was no line or anything like that - he just went from person to person shaking hands and having a few words. I exchanged just a few words, mainly about education in the DR, but then the secret service wisked him away to the next person :-( It was very informal. Even in the case that you don't like his government, you can't help but like HIM, as he is extremely personable and charismatic. He made a short speech which basically reiterated his goal of bringing high tech jobs to the DR (a la Taiwan), and investing in EDUCATION (yippie). Although he did not relegated tourism to a second place per se, he made the point that the DR cannot rely entirely on it. In conclusion, it seemed everyone was in awe with Fernandez, perhaps because he just made you feel proud to be a Dominican.
