lleno vs. vacio full/empty
encima vs. debajo - on top or above/below
delante vs. detras - front/behind

leaving ancho and estrecho, wide/narrow maybe?

Great!

Rellosk thanks for completing the quiz and Ricktoronto for filling in the gaps. Everything is correct. I just wanted to add: alto/bajo could be "tall/short".

If all goes well there will be a Part II later on.

Thanks

LDG.

What was ancho and estrecho?

I use alto and bajo for tall and short - corto is also I cut, right?

What you thought - ancho=wide, estrecho=narrow

Estrecho also means 'Strait' in the nautical sense.

Yes.

Doesn't bajo also mean "low" like that's a low price ?

Cut is a verb so wouldn't it be "cortar" not corto.

Yes. 'Alto' also means high in the sense of high prices.

Cut is a verb so wouldn't it be "cortar" not corto.

Rick was right - 'corto' means 'I cut'. The infinitive, 'to cut', is as you say, 'cortar'.

Tsk tsk, Anna, I said "I cut" , I know the 1st person vs. infinitive.

A corte de pelo is a haircut for the vocabulary fans.

The question I have is, if you lose money in an investment do they use the phrase, "Tom? un corte de pelo en esa inversi?n"?

Makes sense if you weren't expecting the haircut ...
Don't we say "I took a bath on that one" when referring to a loss?
Anna, you might want to think about Spanish 201, etc. for those advanced students.
Keep up the good work.

Mofi you did very well! Could you put the English translation for everyone. Thanks

There are only four remaining that Mofi could not fill in. Maybe someone else can complete the quiz with the English translation? Thanks.

Dulce/ amargo - sweet/bitter
Orgulloso/humilde - arrogent/humble

=======================

macho/ humilde/ amargo/ raro

I honestly didn't look them up. The first I know and the second sounds like the Italian word. Did I get it right? I have no clue of the meaning of he other two words.

These are the words I would use.
Hembra-Varon
Dulce-Agrio (amargo is bitter. Agrio is sour)
Everything else looks good.

I lied. Another change I would make is the opposite for Aceptar is rechazar. Not ofrecer.
Accept-reject.
Not accept-offer

Thanks!

Stewart,

Thanks for confirming the rest of the responses. I am not too concerned about the slight variations that you would use for the opposite of "dulce- sweet" / "aceptar- accept" opinions may vary. Actually selected vocabulary from both my lists can have slightly different answers (I suppose). My goal was to give some of the beginners a chance to expand their vocabulary.

Thanks to all who participated. The thread does not have to stop here. If anyone wishes to continue or try something else for vocabulary enrichment please feel free.
