A few questions about a Dominican vacation

Hey, I'm planning to go to Santo Domingo in December possibly, and I want to be in the city, but all of the vacation packages that I see only are in resorts on the outskirts, like Juan Dolio. I want to experience some of the culture and nightlife of the city, since a part of my heritage is Dominican. Should I just pay for airfare and then rent a room nightly in a decent hotel when I get there? Also, do most hotels take Dominican pesos or only U.S. dollars? I was hoping to take advantage of the exchange rate. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There are rooms to fit every budget

Get here on the cheapest seat you can find. Go to Santo Domingo and find a cheap place to stay...Check out the Search function here to see about inexpensive hotels...

You'll have a blast..:p:p:p

Now that the peso seems to have settled, there is no longer an advantage in the exchange rate.:(
