Here is a link of the forest fires that scarred several square kilometers in the Cordillera Central earlier this month.

How brown the Haitian side of the island is (except along its northern and southern areas) compared to the DR side (this is the lack of trees effect).
How blue the sea is just south of Caicos Islands (One of the island groups of the Turks and Caicos Islands just north of Haiti) can be seen along the upper edges of the picture.
How Enriquillo Lake looks so green and it seems that we will soon have to change the name from Enriquillo Lake to Enriquillo Lakes or Enriquillo's Ponds if it keeps evaporating at the rate it is. Isla Cabritos looks more like Peninsula Cabritos. What a shame that one of our most important natural patrimonies is being lost due to the heavy deforestation in the sorrounding area. This is really bothersome.
How clearly you can see the Santo Domingo metropolis! Wow! You can even compare the size of SDQ to that of Port-au-Prince which is also clearly visible. SDQ seems more orderly than Port-au-Prince from outerspace as well. Interesting!
Other towns clearly visible includes San Pedro de Macoris and La Romana. If you know your Dominican geography well, you can make out Higuey in between two clouds roughly halfway north from the Parque del Este (the green batch in the southeastern corner of the island). Also, if you look closely along the northcoast, you can just make out Puerto Plata, but its partially covered by the fumes.
Along the Haitian northern coast you can see Cap-Haitien (roughly halfway along the coast). Its interesting to see Lage Peligre (the artificial lake created by the only dam in Haiti), it appears to be evaporating as well, this lake is fed by the Artibonite River (I believe). It's roughly in the Central Plateu of Haiti.
