Hi there.
I am sure some of you are sick of hearing from me, but please know that I appreciate your patience You have helped me considerable with general knowledge of the D.R.
I guess my situation has pretty much been decided for me. I got out of having to stay at the Playa Dorada complex and my home resort has tentatively confirmed me to stay at the Windsurf Beach REssort in Cabarete. They say it is not right on the beach, but right across the street? I have tried several times without success to open the virtual tour, mybe my computer or me???
I guess all the help and info you people here on DR1 have given me, will not go to waste, but.....under the circumstances i have no options unless I am willing to spend more money than the trip was budgeted for for accomodations. I would rather spend that in the Dominican Republic at many of the restaurants/bars mentioned on this forum. It was mandatory for me to stay at a resort (which I guess is fair, as I originally booked the Ocean Manor) The difference being, Ocean Manor apparently is right on beach, Windsurf is across street. But, I believe Windsurf will be closer to everything?? Am I right in assuming this.??
In closing,,no matter what, I have to get my head around this, I want to have a great time in D.R. Rocky, Tim, Planner, Escott, Howmar,Hammerdown, Robert,,,,,"GRACIAS" I sincerely hope to see you all (you just never know)
I have so many great ideas of things to do and places to see.
I guess I am looking for HONEST opinion of Windsurf - I think it would be better than Paradise Beach and Casino, but...what do I know. I could be way off base. Apparently some of the apartments are ocean view?? Whether or not I get that??? Can't worry anymore,,,,just have to go with it.

We are snowed in up here today, so .....I guess some sunshine both dry or liquid would be good!!!

Meg:classic:

P.S. Really thinking of selling my membership, you people have made it very clear, there is sure alternative ways to do things.

Do you mean windsurf resort?

I have not followed your thread, but just took the virtual tour of Windsurf resort (you may need to download real player) and I am familiar with the place having a friend who lives there and having received a tour of the place from the owner who I've known for years.

There is no ocean view, but otherwise its a very nice place with rooms that vary in quality but are generally just fine. Most significant is the location: it is on the east end of town, easy walking distance to everything, including restaurants (dozens of them), bars, beach disco, pharmacies, salons, shops, 24-hour doctor, office supply store, grocery stores, really everything you can possibly imagine in a beach resort that caters to a young sports minded crowd that plays in the water or nearby mountains during the day and dances and parties all night in the beach bars that are just across the street.

Try Restaurants Ooh La La, Natalie Simon Windsurfing for the best breakfast, Friend's and Paneria Dick also for breakfast or lunch, Sandro's for Dominican cuisine, and take a taxi just a mile and a half to Cayahone for dinner at Tigre Restaurant or the new steak house which is the first place on the left and called the crazy people across the street or some such thing in french or spanish, which is across from an archery center run by a relative of VAn Go.

You cannot help but have a very good time in Cabarete and the Windsurf Resort is perfectly fine. Next time consider staying more centrally at Cita del Sol or Palm Beach Condo's.

Mega, the windsurf its a nice hotel but you cannot compared them to the ones in playa dorada they're very different. First is not an AI,what i mean is that most hotels like this arent as luxurious as the AI in any part of the DR.

As island777 said Cita del Sol is quite good and has a restaurant that i love , good music and great pizza's ! Can't wait to go there for new years !

you'll have no problem getting used to cabarete

Seling your membership...

is about as hard as inventing a perpetual motion machine, so you need to learn how to maximize it.

Talk to the people at Windsurf about why their members have such good luck in exchanging to great resorts in North America and elsewhere. There are some basic tricks to successfully using a timeshare and you will learn them.

To the timeshare nay-sayers on this board, save your breath. I am not suggesting that she buy anything from Windsurf--just see if there may be a way to make her timeshare (which she now owns and will almost certainly be unable to resell) more user friendly.

In the meantime, enjoy Cabarete.
