Santiago reservations/Samana travel

I am traveling with a friend to DR for the first time in late February. I have two questions.

We will be flying JetBlue and arriving at 2:15 AM in Santiago. I've been researching hotels and would like to book at room at either Aloha Sol or Centro Plaza. I have not had luck booking online through Expedia. The message immediately comes up "no availability" I believe because we only want to stay one night. I'm nervous about making a phone call because I don't speak Spanish. Is arriving at either of these hotels so late a problem? Will there be someone there to let us in?

What is the best way to travel to Samana, near Las Terrenas, the next day? We are considering splurging and flying either to or from the pennisula. The other trip will be either by taxi or bus. Any hints or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

February is still busy season. I wouldn't take a chance arriving at a Hotel without a reservation. I would call them and make a reservation (lack of Spanish shouldn't be a major problem) and then re-confirm the reservation the day before you arrive. Make sure to let them know you are arrving 2:00 in the morning on Jet-Blue.

Another option would be to send them a fax and ask them to send you a confirmation via fax (this may take few tries).

I dont know what the casino hotel would cost , but I would bet they speak english and will be open well after you arrive....if you think about saving $30 a night is it worth the hassle of a closed small hotel in ....savings! I say no especially for ONE night...bob

Try this:
Send me an email. I can make a reservation for you , not problem.
I do not know if our B&B will still be functioning then, but you are welcome to stay if it is.
Try getting in touch with Rocío at : palomalinda0890@hotmail.com

They, Rocío and her husband, provid great taxi service to and from the airport at all hours.

Next--How to get to Las Terrenas.

Easy. There are two direct buses that leave from Santiago at 11 and 3 and go direct to Las Terrenas. Simple, huh?

Just le me know if we can help youm, okay?

I recommend the Aloha Sol in Santiago. We were there a week ago and really enjoyed it. However, there is no way of booking online, even through their website www.alohasol.com. I had no problems making a reservation over the phone in English, just call and say "Hola, habla ingles". I called and confirmed my reservation the night before and it was there, all set.

...They might get the spelling of your name wrong. I make the reservation and even spelled out my name, Noah Love in spanish for them and somehow it turned into "Nowa Lowa" on the bill. :classic: :classic:

My daughter-in-law speaks Spanish maybe I'll enlist her for the phone call.
Thanks for the hotel advice. How much did you pay at Aloha Sol?

We had a small room with two double beds, cable TV, air conditioning, a nice bathroom and a mini bar for 2094 pesos a night (about 63 dollars). I saw their pricing sheet and they have 7-8 differnt pricing options for bigger rooms, beds, more space, exc.
