Ok, so I go to this dominican hair salon in Canada and find myself at a loss for words like Rollers, Dryer, Curls ect. Can someone please come up with a list of words pertaining to a hair salon?!?
Although not related to hair, they can be found in a salon.
Unas- nails
Manicure and pedicure the same.
Trenzas/Trencitas- Braids
Peluca-Wig
Mechas??- It sounds like that and it means streaks buy you can also say Rayos- don't know if that is the correct spelling though.
I forget how to say elastics like elastic bands for your hair.
This is one area of Spanish where there is some standardization. Many of the terms are similar in most places but I will offer you what I am seeing here in Panamá (which is where I am right now). Coincidentally the only terms that are new to me (or better said different from what I use) from this list are: #1 and #2.
Servicios de belleza:
1) Anti Permanentes- curls
2) Alisado- (quitarse los rizos) – to straighten
3) Blower
4) Champú
5) Cortes
6) Depilación- (body) hair removal
7) Extensiones- extensions
8) Mechitas- highlights
9) Permanente(s)- perm
10) Texturizados or texturizantes- same as English (no estoy segura)
11) Tintes- dye or color rinse
12) Tratamiento para la caída del cabello y resequedad -treatment for breaking hair and dryness.
Okay I really need to know how to tell my dominican hairstylist that i would like my hair cut in top layers and no cutting on the bottom but can cut like a swoop bang on the side and cut to frame my face and that i want a black rinse.
What's a swoop bang on the side? Aren't bangs normally found on the forehead? aranoid: It's been a while since I cut hair. Might be easier to bring in a picture if you can find one.
A black rinse? You should specify here too. Do you want something that will last that is mixed with peroxide then it's a tintes.
