HELLO TO ALL AND THANKS FOR READING MY POSTING. JUST LIKE MY USER NAME SAYS, I AM MARRIED TO A DOMINICAN AND WE ARE MILLIE AND KELBIN. I HAVEN'T MET HIS FAMILY AND PLANNING TO TRAVEL TO SANTIAGO ON OR ABOUT EARLY JANUARY 2006. MY HUBBY, NOR HIS FAMILY ARE BEING COOPERATIVE AS I HAVE DECIDED TO STAY AT A HOTEL, BEING THAT HE WILL NOT BE TRAVELING WITH ME AND I WOULD FEEL KIND OF UNCOMFORTABLE CRASHING AT THEIR PLACE. :ermm:

I NEED HOTEL INFO IN SANTIAGO, AND MAYBE SOME AIRLINE INFO WOULD BE APPRECIATED. MY OCCUPATION IS A TRAVEL AGENT, BUT UNFORTUNATELY THE INFORMATION WITHIN MY REACH IS VERY LIMITED IN CONNECTION WITH THIS DESTINATION. I LIVE IN ORLANDO, FLORIDA AND WOULD PREFER A 4 STAR HOTEL +, BUT ANYTHING LESS WITH GOOD REVIEWS AND RECOMMENDED WOULD BE ACCEPTABLE.

I APPRECIATE ALL THE HELP YOU MAY EXTEND TO ME AND WISH YOU A GREAT HOLIDAY SEASON.

GREETINGS FROM SUNNY ORLANDO,
MILLIE ;) [/I][/FONT]

May I suggest that you hit the cap lock button one more time, so as to not scream at us, then, if your hubby and his family are not being cooperative about your trip, cancel it and save yourself some grief & money.

Why should you want to go to Santiago then?

BTW, how long have you been married to "Kelbin"?

Kelbin??? or is it Kelvin? God he doesn't even know how to even spell his name and the poor gringa thought his name really did spell kelbin.
Care to tell us where his family lives in "cien fuego"?

AZB, this happens all the time. His name most likely IS Kelbin, cause his parents didn't know how to spell it when he was born. This is how we get Dominicans like Wilian and Lewins.

Millie, you are insultng your Dominican family by refusing to stay at their place and this is why they are being uncooperative.

A travel agent who can use the internet cannot find flights to Santiago nor the good 4 * hotel that is there, please, this sounds like hogwash.

I agree with MrMike, they are rightfully offended. At least try to stay there and then use a hotel as a hedge.

Interesting she married the guy without meeting his family prior to the wedding or even after.

Hotel El Gran Almirante
Av E Sadhalá 10
Santiago
(809) 580-1992

Hotel Platino
Av E Sadhalá
Santiago
(809) 724-7576

I have stayed in both hotels but prefer the first one, for business in Santiago.

I would give the Gran Almirante a 4 stars, its restaurant is international, very nice and clean place to stay. Rooms are quiet and big. It has a Casino atached. I don't think there is a nicer hotel in the Cibao. If there is, please post!

Platino is a 3-. Rooms are clean. Bathrooms are tiny. The restaurant is not consistent, one day you can have a great meal, next day so so. Avoid rooms in the first floor, you can hear personnel chit chat in the reception area. It has a big garden in the back.

I go to Santiago and cities around just for business. Maybe others can give you a review of other places more suitable to your needs.

Good grief. This is the travel forum. Please save the rude comments for Sanky101. She is asking for hotel recommendations. If you don't know of any, then why post at all.

Carry on...

Just amazing!!!

Hello and thanks for all that replied,,, mostly negative minded individuals, but still this is a forum and subject to comments from many with incompetence and numerous frustrations. To start, thanks for those who contributed to my concern, and to the ones that didn't, I will kindly reply as follows:

First- I am not a gringa. I'm a proud LATINA of a Puertorican and Cuban descent.

Second- My husband's name, as registered in his Demographic Records and Birth Certificate is KELBIN. It is typically known to be spelled and pronounced as Kelvin, but its unfortunate that there are others in our countries who didn't have the priviledge of being educated who happen to spell incorrectly, in which case that doesn't apply to respective names in the event that people have been creative throughtout the years and have altered one or more letters on their respective names.

Third- This was 20some years ago and we are careless to find out if this was his parents fault of whoever registered him at that time. Regardless of who it was, he's lived happily ever after with his name spelled with a B. In the 70's that wasn't an issue if you could spell right or not, in the other hand there are other meanings of education than just spelling or the paying for high tuition costs. For those who actually replied to my previous posting ask yourself.... Are you more educated than his family or the rep was? They did lack of knowledge (grammar skills), and you lack of manners. (Not to mention other observations I could address from previous messages).

Fourth- We are married and I haven't met his parents. How many people have you met physically but barely know? ... so if that answers your questions, I haven't seen them face-to-face ... and who are you to critize me that I married an outstanding individual but haven't had the opportunity to meet his parents as they live in another country. I now have the ability to travel and meet them, it is the correct time and there was no need to meet them to have their conscent for marriage.

Fifth- It is only of my concern where I wish to sleep and crash at night. Dominican families are no more "hospitalarias" than Puertorticans. If I decide to stay at a hotel, its because we are in position to surrender its costs for better accommodations. Hispanic families, give more than ten extra miles to accommodate visitors, and I will not tolerate this if it may become uncomfortable for them. There is no need for them to give me their bed with AC for me to be comfortable and them having to sleep on a separate room. They're not insulted and we have discussed this matter and come to an understanding. They live in Santiago, and that is why I wish to stay near this location. Visitors don't mean packing the kids to another room and having X sleep with Y so we can use that extra bed. This practice shouldn't be conducted for visitors, much less when the person is fortunate and has decided to find other meanings to stay.

Sixth and last- Have respect for others. Distinguish when your mouth is to be shut. If you don't have nothing positive to add to a conversation (forum) or within the limits of the subject, click next and follow to the next link that will possibly bring a better open understanding of your comments.

Again, I appreciate the time of those who contributed to my inquiry.

Would you by chance have a sister who would be interested in a Cape Verdean/Mexican/Native American? I like your spunk and backbone. Welcome aboard.

For your purposes, the best and cheapest flights are Spirit out of Ft Lauderdale direct to STI....at least that is what my daughter says.

As one of the rpevious posters has stated the Gran Almirante on Av Estrella Sadhalá is the place for you--809 580 1992. If the cost is a little too steep, perhaps the Aloja Sol on Sol St in the center of town would be good for you.

I do not know the Platino, but if "andrea" is recommending it, it should be pretty decent. Depending on where Kelbin's folks live, you'll be either an RD$80-90 or 100 taxi ride away.

Good luck and have a safe trip.

Thanks for the info ,,,

Hi ,,.

I've been trying to find this info online about these hotels and no luck :( Also, Spirit will only do SDQ or Punta Cana. The flight I found and preliminary think its the one we'll purchase is MCO-FLL-SDQ.

I can't seem to find any info on those hotels, does anyone have a website for them?

Thx ;)

I am so sorry. Now that you mention it, I (too freakin' old and sleepy) remember that my daughter went in and out of STQ....:(:(:(

But it was still the cheapest.

Don't worry about the hotels they are good. Clean and so forth.

Aloha Sol

Aloha Sol seems nice but my hubby says location isn't good. I have these two hotels that can't seem to find on the web and look like the finalist:

Platino
Amber

Found the link for Platino, and for those who are in the same boat as I am, their website is: www.hotelplatinord.com. Personally, not interested in this property. Will keep looking ...

If you stay at the Aloha Sol... please come back with a review. There was other hotel in Santiago, the Hodelpa Plaza... Some years ago the options were:

1. Gran Almirante
2. Hodelpa Plaza
3. Aloha Sol

Aloha Sol needed some improvement in infrastructure, not sure if it have had it. Hodelpa Plaza was in remodelation about 3 or 4 years ago, never heard of it again. Never saw their websites.

From what I remember of the Aloha Sol, I would stay at the Platino.

Good luck

Jess
