Didn't AZB coin this one?

"Dime con quien andas y te dire quien eres"

Didn't AZB coin this one?

It is, nevertheless, quite telling when it comes to how folks stick to their click in the RD.

Thank you!

I also have a book of Spanish Modismos, or common idioms - I can add some asked, and perhaps Lesle might indulge us with which are popular in the RD. It would also be good to kno which are not used at all in the RD and which have other meanings or bad alternative meanings in the RD.

Thanks so much and Lesly - sorry for volunteering you. See what happens when you get such a GOOD reputation?

Could you translate some of these, for those of us that are linguistically challenged?

Stay well,

Proverbs are not Dominicanismos

Abul abul.................The correct way is abur abur

Ta to'

No deje camino real por vereda...Not strictly Dominican

Dime con quien andas y te dire quien eres....Universal proverb [/I][/I][/I]

Most of the Dominican sayings above are proverbs universally used in all the Spanish speaking countries.

I'm going to have a bash at finding English equivalents for some of these:

El ojo del amo engorda el caballo...Beauty is in the eye of the beholder?

Lo que no mata engorda.......Similar sayings along those lines: If it doesn't kill you, it's illegal, immoral or fattening...

A caballo grati (regalado) no se le miran los dientes Don't look a gift horse in the mouth

Ojos que no ven corazon que no siente.....What the eyes don't see, the heart doesn't grieve over

Probando e que se guisa The proof of the pudding is in the eating

Ma' vale un pajaro en mano que cien volando....Variation on 'A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush'

Ma' vale malo conocido que bueno por conocer...Better the devil you know

that wouldn't be the right english equivalent.

better would be " when the boss leaves the mice begin to party."

"El ojo del amo engorda al caballo" The owner should keep a close eye on his business. Or don't let anyone else run your business.

(If you can hear the river, is because it has water - referring to gossip and their validity)
