Journalists reporting on environment are meeting in Punta Cana this week at an event sponsored by the Center for Environmental Research and Conservation (CERC) at Columbia University, the New York Times Company Foundation and the Puntacana Ecological Foundation.
The event is held to help hone the skills of journalists so that they be better prepared to investigate, analyze and report in a balanced way on the environmental challenges affecting the world of the 21st century. The workshop is focusing on critical issues such as diseases being transmitted to humans by another mammal or avian species, the link between land aleration and the emerging human disease link, hot spots for disease transmission and ways in which human activities can be managed to avoid major outbreaks of disease. Likewise, the impacts of disease on wild species and the ecosystems, and the context of their impacts on wildlife, humans and domesticated animals that surround them. Also, environmental degradation and its significant economic costs, drinking water and the supply problems, destructive fisheries
Puntacana Ecologic Foundation will be making a presentation on sustainable tourism in a developming country and the Puntacana Resort & Club case study in coastal management.
