Surinam air connection
Starting Tuesday, 4 April, Surinam Airways will provide an additional link from the Dominican Republic to the southern Caribbean and South America. The airline will begin direct flights to Curacao, the first stop in a flight that continues on to Port of Spain (POS) and Paramaribo (PBM), the capital of Surinam. Fares are US$180 round trip plus taxes and airport charges.
Surinam Airways is represented in the country by General Air Services. Gustavo de Hostos, president of General Air Services, pointed out that the route makes an important contribution to regional integration. The flight is timely for Dominicans seeking to export to Curacao, Trinidad and Surinam.
Speaking at a breakfast where the flight was announced to travel agents, Eric Klooster, Curacao Tourism Development Bureau (CTDB) marketing manager for the Caribbean and Central America predicted that the route would be a success, because Curacao is a favorite with Dominican shoppers.
The Santo Domingo (SDQ) to Curacao (CUR) flight will depart Santo Domingo on Tuesdays and Fridays at 2:30 pm and arrives at Curacao at 4 pm. For more information, call 809 621-7777, or contact Lydia Baez at
