i think i read somewhere that if you overstay the 3 months without legally extending it, youre fined a certain dollar amount when you exit the D.R?

is that true and if so how much are the fines?

in addition, can D.R immigration deport somebody for overstayin the 3 month visa?
and if they can by law , do they usually resort to such measure?

Or search on this rather common question before asking is another thought. There must be 100 posts with this question ready to find.

Note authorities anywhere can deport anyone for just about any reason. If they want you out then overstaying a tourist card (which is not for 3 months, it is for one month) is one way without them resorting to anything that would entail work.

Fines are posted at the airport and go all the way up to a year of overstay. You can pay in either Pesos or Dollars.

There used to be a lower fine for overstaying the 15 days but not a month, however, it has been eliminated. I usually stay for 4 month periods and my last time out I paid $ 250RD.

How did they figure out that you were there longer than 14 days?

Now that they take both parts of the new tourist cards when you arrive, I thought that they only way they could track it would be to find your entry stamp on your passport.

Arrived with the old tourist card at Nov. 3rd 2005

Afterwards I was wondering about the amount of the fine, should have been just 500 Pesos, but forgot about the official tariffs at the very moment of passport-control, ---- won`t happen again :ermm:
