Of Course.....
that is what they are doing (redefining) and here is a breakdown of those "government taxes and fees."
My recent trip broke down like this:
1) Air Fare: $218.00;
2) Dominican Airport Departure tax: $20.00;
3) U.S. Airport security Tax: $7.50;
4) U.S. FET: $29.00;
5) Dominican Airport Authority Fee: $25.00;
6) Dominican Airport Infrastructure Fee: $24.90;
7) U.S. Animal Plant Inspection Service: $5.00;
8) U.S. Passenger Facility Charge: $12.00;
9) U.S. Immigration Fee: $7.00.
So, more than half of the taxes and fees go dirctly to the Dominican Government and the balance to the U.S. I do not believe the airlines share any of that revenue.....so, yes a $9.00 air fare is a $9.00 airfare....
plus taxes.
Let's also not forget that other tax imposed, the $10.00 tourist card. With that, the D.R. collects a total of about $80.00 per U.S. tourist per trip.

International fares do not include Government taxes and fees up to $125 per round trip.
Am I misreading this, or are they just "redefining" the various costs involved so as to make it seem that you pay 9 bucks but in fact you pay the same hundred and change you always pay. I am not knocking it, a hundred and change RT is a good deal, but the definition of the tariffs is dishonestly misleading.
