Travel between Santo Domingo and Puerta Plata

I would like to know what is the best way to go from Santo Domingo to Puerto Plata. Is it possible to fly between the two cities and if not what do you recommend? I am flying out of JFK to Santo Domingo and plan to spend a few days in S. Domingo, a few days in Puerto Plata before returning to the US. Or do you think it's better to reverse and fly into Puerta Plata?

Also do you know the cost associated with such travel?

The best option would be to fly in one city and out another if that could be arranged for a reasonable fare. Otherwise, your best option is to take the Metro or Caribe Tour buses that make the 225 km. trip for less than US$8. The buses are good and leave at least six times a day. Recommend you bringing a sweater, as they turn the a/c on high.

I booked a flight on Continental EWR-SDQ and POP-EWR and there was no difference in price from a EWR-SDQ_EWR.
