I will be traveling from PUJ airport in Punta Cana to the Paradisus Palma Real in Bavaro Beach. I am trying to decide if renting a car is the best way to get to and return to the airport and do a little site seeing. Or take taxis both ways and site see. I have been to many Carribean Islands and rented cars with no problem. What is the price for a taxi for three? The rental cars seem to be very reasonable.

Thanks,

Getting around in Punta Cana by taxi is expensive, unless you can fare share. Usually above US$20 the ride. With that kind of money, you can rent a car. Now, there is option, little used by tourists, of taxing the commuter buses used by the employees. I believe the going rate is less than US$1 the ride -- and they go long distances. They will drop you off outside your hotel, though. They make stopovers at most hotels. That is one way to see far out beaches, such as the public beach areas of Cabeza de Toro, Cortecito, even all the way up to Macao.

If you will be touring Boca de Yuma or La Romana (Bayahibe) suggest you rent a car. See http://www.dr1.com/national or http://dr1.com/directories/car_rental/prestige_rentals.shtml
