Airport to Boca Chica - better idea then SD?

I am trying to decided whether to stay in Boca Chica or Santo Domingo when I arrive for my DR trip in August. I am looking for tickets online and trying to decide which airport in Santo Domingo is better - I'm guessing SDQ?

Also, someone posted in another thread that staying in Boca Chica is closer to the airport (SDQ) and that there are a lot of good places to stay that are inexpensive. How far is it to get from the airport (I am assuming we are speaking of Las Americas?) to Boca Chica? How expensive for taxi? Also, can anyone recommend good places to stay there?
Thanks-
Ambre

Boca Chica is about 10 minutes from Las Americas. Santo Domingo is about 40 minutes. A cab to Boca Chica will cost about $20-$22 (maybe more with the higher fuel costs).

What amenities are you looking for in a hotel (air-conditioner, pool, casino, all-inclusive, on the beach, etc.) and what is your budget?

Are you just looking for a place to "crash" your first night? Where are you going from there? Boca Chica and SD are in opposite directions from SDQ, so this would make a difference.

First Night

I am "crashing" after I meet my boyfriend who is in Peace Corps in Bayaguana at the airport. We just want to stay close by - but will need to get back to SD at some point. I am not sure what our exact plan is yet, to go to his village first or travel, but I know I will be tired. If they are in opposite directions, then I will just go to SD. Isn't there another airport in SD besides SDQ?
thanks!

difference in cost

ps - why is it only $30 to go from SDQ to SD, which is 40 miles away - but $20 to go from SDQ to Boca Chica, which is 10 miles?
Just curious?

I believe Boca Chica is appx. 15 miles away from SDQ and SD is appx 20-25(depending on what part) from SDQ.

If you need to go to Santo Domingo anyway, I see no reason to spend a night in Boca Chica, which is in the opposite direction. Now if you were to stay a couple of days in Boca Chica and enjoy the beach, that would make sense. No beach in Santo Domingo. Bayaguana is about an hour or so from either place.

To the OP...do you want some time at the beach or do you want city life?

no..the beach in BC is not the prettiest in the DR.....but it aint bad.

It is really all about doing beach vs city. There are no beaches in SD..but there is also no real night life in Boca Chica.

20 bucks is the standard taxi fare from sdq to boca chica...its much more to get into the capital. ....but if you stay at candil (i hear you have to stay three nights)...they offer free airport pickup. A very nice place to stay as well!

best of luck....let us know how it goes when you get back!!

Cadil, plus Samana and Sosua?

Thanks! Do you know what the website is for Candil?

I will definitely let you know how it goes. We have 5 days to travel around (he has to be at his campo the other days), what beaches/sites would you say we should hit? I am planning on moving in December (to SD, granted everything goes as it should), so I am looking for more beauty/beach stuff to do. I really want to see Samana, plus either Sosua or Cabarete. Does it take long (is it difficult) to get from Samana to Sosua?

Thanks-
Ambre
